Our Story

Founded in 2023 by a local librarian with the goal of creating a free, low pressure space where adults could gather, discuss stories and create new social connections in person rather than online.

Starting with a single table in a local brewery our simple recipe of good books and great chat quickly struck a chord. Growing in to a multi venue operation, today Books in the Brewery hosts suburban book clubs across Perth, and curates engaging and entertaining literary events around the city and regional Western Australia.

We believe that great storytelling and literary events should be accessible for everyone, that’s why our book clubs remain free for all and at least 10% of all tickets to our paid events are reserved at a heavily discounted rate for low income and unemployed community members, no questions asked.

What we do

Free Community Book Clubs

A Books in the Brewery book club meeting is a low pressure, no pretension welcoming event for adult readers of all experience to think and talk about books in a safe and encouraging space. Expect to be discussing books curated with the reader experience in mind from both award-winning Australian authors and new voices from around the country.

Book Launches & Feature Conversations

We think books are worth celebrating and authors should be treated like rock stars, so cue the music, pour some wine and let’s talk all night about the books and authors who make our world’s go round.

Crime With Wine, Sunday Sessions, and other panel events

What happens when you take talented writers and sit them down to discuss the things that they love, that make them tick as writers and the books that made them the readers they are. Our engaging panel chats about the things we love should feel like you’re at BBQ with your favourite authors and everyone is welcome to join in the chat.

Regional WA Touring

Want an author talk, a panel conversation or writers workshop in your town? Get in touch. We love partnering with regional venues and community groups to take the show on the road to help connect Perth and East Coast based writers with passionate audiences in regional towns.

Local Government and Library Partnerships

We collaborate with local councils, shires and public library networks, including the State Library of Western Australia to design and deliver grant-ready, vibrant, accessible cultural programming for their communities.
